COPACABANA, BOLIVIA (AND LAKE TITICACA)

Copacabana is a small town right next to Lake Titicaca at 12,500 feet above sea level.

View of Copacabana from Cerro Calvario, about 500 feet above the town...

Zooming on the town center...

Slightly different view...

Looking from the town to Cerro Calvario...

The top of Cerro Calvario

View of Lake Titicaca from the top...

Another view, with non-native Monterey pines...

View to the east, mostly away from the lake...

Native shrub, the cantuta or flor del inca (Cantua buxifolia)...

Trail back down to the town...

The beach at Copacabana (much colder than the "other" Copacabana!)...

View from above (from Cerro Calvario)...

A little mini-parade in Copacabana...

Now a few views outside of town...

The road back to La Paz requires a ferry that crosses a small part of Lake Titicaca (the only true land connection to other parts of Bolivia goes through Peru, which would require a border crossing, so technically Copacabana is part of an exclave). The ferries carry buses, other vehicles and passengers...

The road back to La Paz is mostly altiplano, looking like this (with mountains in the distance)...
