VALPARAISO
Valparaiso is a city on a bay a little less than 100 miles northwest of Santiago. This is kind of a city with more older (and, in some cases, run-down) buildings compared with other parts of Chile.
There were a lot of funiculars on the steep hillsides, some operational, some not. Here's one that was non-operational...
And one that was operational (that I rode on)...
Elections were about to occur in Chile, so campaign signs were abundant. Many of the signs for "Senadores" or "Diputados" (similar to U.S. Representatives) had the backing of one of the national presidential candidates (or the then current president, Michelle Bachelet (on the left side of the signs for Laura Soto), who couldn't run again due to a one-consecutive-term limit).
