BOGOTÁ (PART II)

This is Part II of the Bogotá pics...consisting of mostly pics in the Bogotá Botanical Gardens. Go here for Part I, which contained a lot of pics from Monserrate, above the city.

The Botanical Gardens in Bogotá actually contained mostly native plants, unlike most botanical gardens around the world (though a few non-native plants are included here)...

First...the national tree of Colombia...the wax palm (Ceroxylon quindiuense)...in a large collection (with some Australian kangaroo plants (Anigozanthos) in front)...

Another wax palm collection...

Another nice view, with South African red hot pokers (Kniphofia) in front and a native Ledenbergia (with the white flowers in back)...

Another Andes palm (from Ecuador and southern Colombia), the Quito coconut, Parajubaea cocoides (though not an actual coconut)...

Some showy flowers of native Meriania nobilis...

Yet another native, Palicourea vaginata...

Here's an oddity...a Scotch pine (normally planted in continental--especially colder continental--climates)--this looks much different here than in the North...

And one last picture from Bogotá...a young wax palm that almost looks like it's made of metal!!!
