OTHER AREAS OF COLOMBIA (PART II)
Here are some more pictures of other parts in the heart of Colombia (generally the west-central part, but outside of Bogotá, Medellín, Nevado del Ruiz and Valle de Cocora). These are from the higher elevations. Go here for Part I of the miscellaneous pics, from lower-to-mid elevations.
Now...to the area around Manizales...
A view to the north (from Manizales, 7000')...overlooking clouds...
An incredible (and endemic to that part of Colombia) silver cecropia (Cecropia telealba) viewed from the same location...
Downtown Manizales...
In contrast, a working-class residential neighborhood...
And a middle-class neighborhood (note another Cecropia telealba in the lower right)...
Now for pics from a nearby 11,000' mountain pass east of Armenia...
First, a couple bike riders getting a free ride hanging onto a slow-moving truck (not very far up the mountain yet--around 6000' probably)!
Views from the pass...
Oreopanax floribundum (with a few flower clusters) at the pass...
Another cloud forest view (with some tree ferns) near the pass...
Cavendishia bracteata, sometimes referred to as the tropical blueberry (it's actually related to the blueberry), in bloom...
And finally, a large shrub/small tree (which I still haven't been able to figure out its name/botanical name)...
