VOLCÁN DE SAN SALVADOR

This is a volcano just a few miles outside of San Salvador. The rim of the crater is around 6200 feet above sea level with the peak around 6500 feet above sea level. These pictures were taken in November 2011 when I was at a meteorological workshop. Go here for pictures from November 2007 when I took a vacation in El Salvador.

First, the view of the volcano from La Gran Via in San Salvador...

View of the city of San Salvador from about 3/4ths of the way up the slope...

The slope of the volcano with native pines and cypresses...

Crater of the volcano...

The cone at the bottom of the crater...

The rim (with towers in the background)...

Begonias in bloom...

Native Dahlias (Dahlia imperialis) in bloom...

This native coral tree had a few blooms...

And, finally, a view (at dusk) of San Salvador (and Lago de Ilopango in the background)...
