BISHOFTU, ETHIOPIA

Bishoftu is about 25 miles southeast of Addis Ababa and at a lower elevation--around 6000 feet. The local area has multiple crater lakes due to past volcanic activity.

Bishoftu Lake is in the town (though the slopes down to the crater lake are mostly unpopulated







A few miles south of Bishoftu is a green crater lake due to algae.



There are numerous pink flamingos along one of the shores...

The dry terrain above the lake (and the tuk tuk that I rode in to get there)...



Back in Bishoftu, a sign with three languages...Oromifa (used in southern Ethiopia and with a Latin script--Bishoftu is on the north edge of the Oromifa speaking area), Amharic (the predominant language of Ethiopia) and English...
