SIMIEN MOUNTAINS, ETHIOPIA (PART TWO)
This is Part II of the Simien Mountains ofnorthwestern Ethiopia.--go here for Part I.
Imet Gogo is a mountain with a big lookout point, between the escarpment and a deep canyon. (Elevation is almost 13,000 feet.)

One last escarpment view (near Imet Gogo) with lobelias...
Tree heaths (Erica arborea) were common. This is disjunct southern area of the tree heath native range--normally they're found near the Mediterranean.
Otostegia integrifolia (sometimes known as the Abyssinian rose, though it is different and not related to Rosa abyssinica) was in bloom and moderately common in the Simien Mountains...
An East African rosewood (Hagenia abyssinica)...
One common bird in the Ethiopian highlands is the thickbilled raven...
There were sheep grazing in parts of the Simien Mountains. Unfortunately, this one was going to be slaughtered the next day for a pre-Lent feast. During Lent, most people who are Ethiopian Orthodox completely abstain from meat and all other animal products (note that Lent starts a few weeks later in Ethiopia than in most other countries).
And, finally, sunset in the Simien Mountains...
