LAKE ATITLÁN (AND SAN PEDRO LA LAGUNA)

This is Part II of the Lake Atitlán/San Pedro la Laguna pics (mostly above San Pedro la Laguna and on Volcán San Pedro. For pics along lake level and urban (San Pedro) pics, go to Part I.

It rained a lot on the hike up Volcán San Pedro, so I had issues with raindrops on the camera lens (and fogging).

First, a view of Lake Atitlán from around 7500' elevation on the slopes of Volcán San Pedro...

View from near the top of Volcán San Pedro (at a little under 10000' elevation)...

Near the top...

Cloud forest around 9000'...

Mexican alders (Alnus acuminata, a tree which has a native range in the highlands from Mexico to Argentina) near the top of Volcán San Pedro...

Another cloud forest pic...

Mexican cypresses (Cupressus lusitanica), which are actually native to many mountainous areas of Central America--near 7500'...

A pine (probably Pinus pseudostrobus) and Mexican cypress near 7500'...

Volcán San Pedro, viewed from the highway around 5500'...

Local children along that highway who begged me to take their picture...

A common (not just to this area but most of highland Central America) yellow-flowering shrub (at 5500')...

A roadside thicket at around 5500' (just above San Pedro la Laguna). This might be a member of the Wigandia genus...

(Probably) Montanoa hibiscifolia from around 5500'. This shrub has white blooms and deeply lobed leaves...

Wider view of the shrub...

Some type of native Ficus at around 5500' with coffee being grown underneath (in its shade)...

A coffee shrub (with beans) at around 5500'...

While this isn't near Lake Atitlán, this is along the Pan-American Highway between Guatemala City and Lake Atitlán (at around 7000' above sea level, northwest of Chimaltenango). There were numerous conifers here, both Mexican cypresses and pines.
