AJLOUN (JORDAN)
Ajloun is in the highlands of northwestern Jordan (about 40 miles northwest of Amman). The elevations in these pics in mostly between 3000 and 4000 feet above sea level. All except the last 2 pictures were from the Ajloun Forest Preserve.
The general terrain of this plateau...
One of the most common trees was the Palestine oak (Quercus calliprinos)...
A common large shrub/small tree was the terebinth pistachio (Pistacia palaestina)...
A less common but more striking tree was the strawberry tree (Arbutus andrachne)...
The Jerusalem sage (Phlomis fruticosa) was in bloom...
And so were the hollyhocks (Alcea sp.)...
This oak (might be Quercus boissieri) looked a bit different from the Palestine oaks...
In a different area (about 10 miles away) was one of several areas of Aleppo pine woodlands...
All pictures were taken in April 2010 by Brandt Maxwell.
