PETRA, PART TWO (JORDAN)

Here is Part 2 of the pics from Petra, generally the ones in more open areas. Part 1 is here (generally pics from/near the gorge, As-Siq).

There are a number of tombs in Petra, mostly built into cliffs and rocky mountain slopes...

A closer view...

The Silk Tomb...

The Urn Tomb...

Inside...

Obelisk Tomb...

A sideways view in that area...

Turkmaniyya Tomb...

Inside...

Not all structures are built into mountains, cliffs, including the Great Temple...

From rear...

General environment around the Great Temple...

Nearby...the Qasr Al Bint...

Also, nearby...the Pharaun Column...

And a better look at those lambs...

Now...to the Monastery in a higher part of Petra...

Inside...

A nearby tall cliff...

More junipers (probably Juniperus phoenicea)...

There are also a few aleppo pines in the higher part of the park (this is near the As-Siq)...

Back to near the monastery, there was some kind of wild Allium nearby growing in abundance...

And finally, just about 1/4 mile away was this view towards the Jordan Valley...

Now...a few views from just outside the park...

Some jacarandas in bloom (and a much more temperate white poplar, which was actually common)...

The town of Wadi Musa...

Nearby highlands were actually a bit green (this was around 5000' above sea level)...

Another view (from the 5000' location) towards the Jordan Valley...
