MISCELLANEOUS PICS FROM TANZANIA
These pics were basically taken in transit between places (mostly between Dar es Salaam and Moshi, in northeastern Tanzania). Note that some of these pics were taken from a moving bus!
Rural scenery near Korogwe (about half way between Dar and Moshi in northeastern Tanzania). This area is quite green.
Huge trees (probably the sycamore fig--Ficus sycomorus) somewhere south of Korogwe (these were common in most areas between Korogwe and Dar es Salaam)...
Agave field near Mombo (a bit to the northwest of Korogwe) with two African women in the foreground. Agave is a frequently grown crop in Tanzania, but not for the nectar or tequila but instead for the fiber.
A mountain right behind that agave field...
The highway from Dar es Salaam to Moshi (near Mombo)...
Fruit stand at a lunch stop for buses near Mombo...
Despite the greenery around Mombo (and especially points southeast), it quickly turns into desert literally 15 or 20 miles to the northwest and without a change in elevation (due mostly to a mountain range)!!!
Some white-blossomed shrubs in that desert area...
The desert area was fairly small...further northwest (where it started getting green) were a lot of doum palms (Hyphaene thebaica) and acacias...
Along the road between Arusha and Ngorongoro (northern Tanzania) was this acacia full of egrets...
A baobab (Adansonia digitata) at the junction with the road to Lake Manyara...
All of the above pictures on this page were taken in February or March 2008 by Brandt Maxwell.
