HANOI (VIETNAM)

Here are pics from the capital city of Vietnam...in the north...

There were numerous lakes in Hanoi, including Hoan Kiem...

Thap Rua, on a small island in Hoan Kiem...

Along the lake is the Ngoc Son Temple...

Old Quarter street...

Building housing Ho Chi Minh's tomb...

In an upscale part of town...the Hanoi Opera House...

Almost right behind the opera house is the Hanoi Hilton...or...uhhh...the more appropriately named, the Hilton Hanoi Opera...

Nearby modern neighborhood...

Small "walk-through" tower...

Big screen in a plaza...

Sign commemorating the time period of the communist party in Vietnam...

Large native sau trees (Dracontomelon duperreanum) in a park...this is the most common tree in Hanoi...

Another lake in Hanoi...this one is Ho Tay Lake...

A temple near Ho Tay Lake...Quan Thanh...

Cherries blooming in Vietnam (there is some "moderate" winter weather here with highs in the 50s on some days)...

Motorcycles in Hanoi (on a chilly day--highs only in the mid 50s)...

Motorcycles parked on the sidewalk...

Some aggressive traffic...

Hanoi at night...the Night Market in the Old Quarter...

Performers/dancers at the Night Market...

On branch of the Song Hong river is just a mile from the main part of town, yet there's an agricultural area leading down to the river (plus high bridges over the river)...
