MARBLE MOUNTAIN

Marble Mountain is a karst area of marble and limestone less than 10 miles south of Da Nang. It's at the southern end of Vietnam's karst region (south of there, the terrain is much more flat). For other Da Nang are pics, go here.

First...some views of the karst...

View of the mountain from the base (with an elevator for a rather odd contrast...though most people take the stairs)...

Ocean view (it cleared up just in time for this photo)...

View to the south, where it's much flatter...

Large marble pagoda near the top...

Two pagodas in this view...

There were numerous caves, including Tang Dong Chon (with enough holes in the ceiling for a lot of light)...

Another cave...Huyen Khong...with a large shrine inside (and lots of statues)...

A smaller cave...Van Thong...

Someone planning to scale the walls (plus other walking tourists)...

Numerous statues, of course, mostly made of marble...

Trail in the woodlands...

Small pagodas and other structures in the hillside...

A few more pics...
