MISCELLANEOUS VIETNAM PICTURES

Here is a mixture of Vietnam pictures, including some from the Cu Chi Tunnels near Saigon...

First, some scenes along the railroad within about 200 miles to the south of Da Nang (southern part of the central coast)...

A beach view...

Areca palms (Areca catechu)...common in Vietnam...

Pandanus (also common in Vietnam)...

Cemetery...

Here is a railroad crossing with a manual gate (the officer actually works here and opens and closes the gate manually)...these are common...

An unmanned, ungated, railroad crossing...

Some minor grazing on a farm...

A snack I had on the train...peanuts in coconut juice (the peanuts were dried before packaging)...

An entirely different snack...this sign, south of Hanoi...was advertising for a restaurant serving cat meat. A person told me that not many people eat cat meat because it's expensive...

South of Hanoi was this (ubiquitous) rice field with workers...

Now...to the Cu Chi pictures...here's a (probably reconstructed) tunnel...only about 3-4 feet high...

Entrance to a tunnel at Cu Chi...

Very petite tourist in the entrance...

An airhole disguised as a termite mound...

A trap!

The guide at Cu Chi demonstrating one of the traps...

Regenerated forest at Cu Chi (it had been demolished by Agent Orange)...

A bomb crater in the forest (someone hard to see now)...

Outside of Cu Chi were lots of rubber plantations...
