COUNTRIES WITH THE GREATEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MALE AND FEMALE LITERACY RATES

Worldwide, 83 percent of males and 71 percent of females are able to read, with an astounding 12 percentage point difference between the two. Unlike the developed nations where nearly all men and women are able to read (and by default have similar literacy rates), many developing nations in Africa and Asia (though not much in Latin America) have large discrepanies in the literacy rates between the men and the women.
